Despite attending one of Istanbul’s best high schools, Selin Kaynak felt the absence of proper guidance. Throughout her education, she realized the lack of sufficient information about the rapidly evolving and changing professions in our world, guidance on which ones aligned most with her personal skills and interests, and which branches she needed to pursue in order to succeed in those professions.
After graduating from the University of Southern California and the University of California – Los Angeles, Selin Kaynak created a process that prevents students who are applying to colleges from experiencing similar hardships and allows them to discover what to study in college. This process aims to help students explore future professions that are expected to be in demand at the time of their application or graduation, enabling them to learn about these professions with joy. KCC’s Major Discovery Process is the first and most crucial step of the college preparation and application process, which is offered by KCC to each student based on their uniqueness, skills, and desires in the field of international education consultancy.
Combining years of experience with an approach that focuses on the unique values each student possesses that they can contribute to society, we have established a system to help students shine in a world that increasingly demands change and development. Guided by this belief, we support students throughout the process of self-discovery, illuminating their path to set goals that not only benefit society but also bring them happiness.
We understand the pressure and stress that the expectation of determining career choices and the majors to study in order to succeed in those careers can create on both young people and their families. Although we do not agree with the notion that young people of this age should be forced to make such crucial decisions about their futures in today’s education system, we have designed our trusted Major Discovery Process to prevent students from being overwhelmed by this expectation. Our goal is to make it easier and enjoyable for students to make this challenging decision by sharing as much information as possible about all the careers, branches, and relevant industry statistics that may be suitable for them, based on their uniqueness.
The KCC Branch Discovery Process consists of several stages and spans several months based on the student’s weekly schedule. As KCC, we emphasize that career identification and branch selection should not be seen as a stressful obligation for students, but rather as an enjoyable learning process that shapes the next exciting phase of their lives. The first stage of our process, “Getting to Know Yourself,” allows the student to reacquaint themselves with the qualities they know about themselves and discover new characteristics they were previously unaware of. Once the student passes this stage, they begin to explore different majors and professions.
Together with Selin Kaynak, the student delves into these professions and branches in detail, guided by their curiosity, interest, and motivation. We determine the progression of this process in collaboration with the student, considering their school schedule, activities, and social life, ensuring that it does not become an additional burden for them. We believe that the ability of our students to learn in a healthy manner and maintain a balanced life is of utmost importance. Therefore, we plan their weekly schedules, exam preparations for studying abroad, activities, and Major Discovery Processes in line with this belief, in collaboration with our students.
Once the student determines which fields are most suitable for them, we begin to explore how these fields are presented in different countries and universities and which ones may be suitable for the student, considering the education system and various factors. In this way, the student discovers the strong skills they need to acquire for the industries and professions they may enjoy working in during the 9th and 10th grades, without rushing or getting stressed. To support this exploration process, the student takes courses that they may enjoy and that help them discover their interests in various fields. They may also attend summer schools related to these programs, participate in internships, conduct research, and engage in various activities. The purpose of these efforts is not to fill a resume, but rather to deeply explore the fields the student believes they are interested in and to gain as much confidence as possible, while also building a strong foundation for the universities they wish to attend. By the time the student reaches 11th grade, they have gone through this informative process and have identified the most suitable schools for them, resulting in a well-prepared and accurate list of schools to apply to. Consequently, the student is ready to establish relationships with the universities they are most interested in during the 11th grade and build a strong foundation for those universities.
In 2016, when we embarked on this journey as Kaynak College Counseling, our goal was not to be just another international education consultancy firm. We joined forces to make a difference in the education and counseling industry, which is predominantly driven by similar and conventional methods. Our aim is to enable our young students to joyfully explore what awaits them in the future, acquire the most suitable educational and experiential qualifications, and confidently navigate their way in this uncertain world. We take pleasure in assuming the responsibility of shaping the future we want to live in, a future built by our young students, and we work tirelessly day and night for this purpose. As Kaynak College Counseling, by focusing on the uniqueness of our valuable students, we hope that our system, which we have built with love and meticulousness, will bring us one step closer to the bright and peaceful future we all desire.
